Fundraising and Community Work

In addition to his performing and teaching career, Sarkis Zakarian is also involved in charity work. During 2012 he gave a recital to raise funds for the Benlian Trust, a foundation that provides scholarships to students of Armenian origin to study in the United Kingdom.

In 2013 he recorded an album of Armenian piano pieces, the profits of which have been continuously donated to the “Armenians in Syria” Appeal.

Since 2006, Sarkis has performed annually at Oxford’s Wolfson College in support of The African Medical Research Foundation (AMREF) which helps improving the health of Africa’s poorest communities.

More recently, Sarkis was invited as a cultural adviser and member of the executive committee of The Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) – London Chapter in its aim to preserve and promote the Armenian identity. Having launched the AGBU London Chamber Orchestra, he successfully directed its inauguration concert in April 2014 under the baton of Maestro Gustavo Ubeda.
